Are Your Politics Left or Right? Perfect. You Might Hate This.

The newly self-righteous are on a mission. They meet at diners, public libraries and outside the offices of their elected officials. They sing, chant, pray and hold signs. They light candles and make banners. They call themselves the resistance, the revolution, the marchers, and the fill-in-the-blank caucus. They preach a positive role for government in society. They want to strengthen the very platform upon which an economic ecosystem is built: environmental resources, public education, roads and bridges. The planks in the platform include poverty reduction measures like affordable housing, and protections for consumers from fraud or poisoning—like the regulations on banking, Pharma, food, water, insurance…the list goes on. Besides advocating for more centralized control over the quality of our lives, they care about social issues like bullying, and who’s being shamed for not paying their school lunch account. They want fairness of opportunity: equality and equity. All of this is great, but something about it reminds me of the Moral Majority movement led by the late Jerry Falwell, and I have some concerns.

Taking a deep breath

Sometimes you just need a withering poinsettia to put things in perspective. Enjoy this post from my Canadian blogger friend.
